Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - Team In Training
I'm seriously considering competing in a half Iron Man in honor of my son Tyler this September sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It's called Team In Training and they have events all over the country every year. The pain I may suffer as a result would in no way compare to the pain and suffering he endured during three years of treatment and initial diagnosis. I don't know if people really realize that going through cancer treatment is much, much more than just taking chemo. It's fever that puts you in the ER, multiple spinal taps, bone marrow aspirations, multiple chemo drugs, all kinds of tests, numerous hospital stays, losing your hair, gaining weight from steroids and having no immune system.
Tyler will be 15 this July. He is a ten year survivor. Fortunately, he doesn't remember much about going through this ordeal because he was only 3 when he was diagnosed. We have participated in the Relay For Life and the Light the Night for the last several years. I think it's time to step it up a notch and suffer just a little bit for the thousands of kids that really suffer every day from Leukemia.
I hope I can count on your support once I make my decision in the coming days.
