Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon
This coming Sunday, April 27, I will run in my first full marathon. Competing in the RedMan triathlon last fall was physically challenging and mentally rewarding. Running a full marathon is my next challenge. I have really enjoyed being fit and active the last few years. Most of all, as a member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s, Team In Training, I have raised over $2000 for the fight against blood cancers. I plan on raising more money and running with TNT again this fall in the Williams 66 Marathon in Tulsa. I also plan on competing in the Redman again this September. Not too shabby at the ripe old age of 42, huh. Not to mention that I obtained BSA and Red Cross Lifeguard Certification three years ago. You might say this is my mid-life crisis, but there’s no turning back. Once you have reached this level of physical activity, you have to maintain it. I have a set routine every day and I actually get irritated if I miss being able to go to the gym during lunch. It throws off my day. It’s my drug.
My son Tyler is my inspiration and I’m trying to get him to start doing it with me. He’s a 13 year survivor of Leukemia and the reason I did the Redman last year. This fall he’s going to run the 5K, Castle Zombie Run in Muskogee, OK with me. This will be his first run as well as his first time to be chased by zombies while running for his life. It will be an awesome time. I will continue to do this until my body won’t let my any longer. Besides, it’s fun and I’m doing it for a great cause.
